Smithers in the Fall
We flew into Smithers to visit family. Everyone said it rained yesterday and it’s going to rain tomorrow. It never did. For 7 days we enjoyed crisp mornings followed by beautiful sunny fall days.
The signature colours of fall, gold, orange, and yellow painted the mountainsides in broad swathes accented by the darker greens of the firs and spruces with an icing of new snow.
We enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner in the home of new-found friends, a spectacular log home with a breathtaking view across the valley.
The Bulkley River rushed furiously full of salmon, and migrating southbound hawks soared along the Babine Range. Lakes held Western Grebes, Gadwall and Common Loons and we found Varied Thrush, Stellars Jays, Black-billed Magpie and Pacific Wren.
We left Smithers by train taking the Thursday afternoon ViaRail to Prince Rupert - what a spectacular ride following the Bulkley and then the Skeena River out to the ocean.
Great time
