Twin Falls & Glacier Gulch
Head west from Smithers on Highway 16. Follow Lake Kathlyn Road to Glacier Gulch Road. When the pavement ends - just keep going. The road is steep and bumpy but is negotiable by car, and even small Recreational Vehicles. The parking lot is a shady refuge to park. A short walk will take to a view point of Twin Falls. You can dip your toes in the icy water that just minutes ago was flowing from the glacial ice above. The is a marked trail to viewing platform. The falls drop 150 meters (525 feet) from Kathlyn Glacier into the pool below. You can proceed uphill from the platform to the rocks below the fall on the left. There is a lot of spray, so protect your camera!
In the early part of the last century there was mining activity on Kathlyn Glacier and some of that evidence remains to be seen today. Hudson Bay Mountain contains one of the richest deposits of molybdenum in Canada and is still being explored today.
