The Smithers Historical Cultural Crawl

The Bulkley Valley Museum invites you on this historical crawl.  Begin at the Museum at 1425 Main Street (the corner of Highway 16 and Main Street) in the old Provincial Building and pick up your culture crawl guide.

Stops include the Smithers Fire Department for a look back at Smithers Finest - the volunteer fire department. Our Little Switzerland, the history of the Swiss migration to the Bulkley Valley is located in the public seating section of the Safeway Supermarket.  From Windmills to Sawmills and Beyond...is view of Dutch migration to the valley and it's on display at Kondola's Furniture downtown.

There are also several "kit homes" manufactured by the Aladdin Company and some that were sold by the Canadian Eaton Company.  This walk will take you through downtown Smithers and into some of the residential ares.  You are encouraged to rest awhile in the Old Church Gardens.  The Old Church was originally the St. James Anglican Church built in Smithers in 1914, making it the first church in Smithers and one of the original buildings.
