Silverking Basin Trail

Less than 30 minutes travel time to trailhead; trail departs Driftwood Creek Road at Sunny Point; easy grade; Joe L'Orsa Cabin

Directions: Less than 30 minutes travel time to trailhead. To reach the trailhead, take Highway 16 east from Smithers pass over the Bulkley River bridge and turn left on Old Babine Lake Road. Turn left onto the Telkwa High Road. Turn right at Driftwood Road and continue to parking area.

Description: The trail departs Driftwood Creek Road at Sunny Point. It follows an easy grade through the trees for most of the way. Some muddy sections must be crossed. Hikers will enjoy the sub-alpine meadows of the Silver King Basin. Peak bloom occurs in mid July. The trail continues past the Joe L'Orsa Cabin en route to the headwaters of Driftwood Creek and Hyland Pass. Remnants of historic mining camp. For more information check with BC Parks.

Note: The Joe L'Orsa Cabin is a public facility with a $5/night user charge for those visitors 13 years and older. Please pay at the BC parks office 3726 Alfred Avenue, 2nd floor or contact BC parks at 250.847.7320. The money generated from the cabin will assist BC Parks with ongoing maintenance of the facility and firewood costs. The cabin will sleep 15-20 people comfortably and is subject to a first come first serve basis.

Day 93 of the Olympic Torch Relay saw a massive event in Smithers, coinciding with the ‘Spirit of the Mountains’ winter festival antics on Main Street.
