McCabe Trail

McCabe Trail is one of the easier trails within the Babine Mountains Provincial Park. It's very suitable for children and novice hikers.

Directions: From Smithers, drive east across the Bulkley River Bridge and make an immediate left turn onto Old Babine Lake Road. Look for blue signs describing directions to Driftwood Canyon Provincial Park. Follow Old Babine Lake Road until you reach the Telkwa Highroad. Turn left on Telkwa Highroad and then very quickly, you'll turn right onto Driftwood Road. Drive until you reach Driftwood Road parking area, 5.8 km past the Fossil Beds. The trailhead for many of the Babine Mountain Provincial Park trails starts here.

Description: This is one of the easier trails within the Babine Mountain Provincial Park. It's very suitable for children and novice hikers. There may be thick vegetation on the first part of the trail. After a few kilometers, the trail opens up. Soon, you're able to see spectacular vistas across the valley to Silver King Basin and Mount Hyland.

Day 93 of the Olympic Torch Relay saw a massive event in Smithers, coinciding with the ‘Spirit of the Mountains’ winter festival antics on Main Street.
