HUDSON BAY MOUNTAIN TRAILS

1) Toboggan Creek Road/Trail
To reach this trail, turn left from Hwy 16 onto Lake Kathlyn Rd. about 4 km West of Smithers. NOTE: follow the signs for Twin Falls & Glacier Gulch. Turn LEFT on Davidson Rd (located about 2 km down Glacier Gulch Rd.) Follow Davidson Road for about 4 km: at this point the road will cross Toboggan Creek. Park your vehicle at the side of the road and strap on your boots! Begin your journey by continuing up the road. This climb will bring you to Toboggan Glacier and a spectacular view of Twin Falls. NOTE: THE HIKE TO THE GLACIER IS FOR EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY.

2) Clacier Gulch Trail
This is about a 3 hr. hike to Kathlyn Glacier. To find this trail, head West on Hwy 16 and follow the signs to Twin Falls and Glacier Gulch. The trail may be somewhat overgrown. The shale just below the Glacier can be hazardous & climbing on the Glacier itself is not recommended.

3) Crater Lake Trail
To reach the trail head of this pleasant hike, follow Railway Avenue out of Smithers to the base of the alpine ski area. Once you reach Ski Smithers, proceed to the third parking lot near the green T-bar. The trail begins just beyond the T-bar and meanders through various cabins. It is unmarked but fairly well defined. The trail is steep at first but quickly levels out. This is an exciting afternoon adventure and home to a myriad of alpine wild flowers. NOTE: A DETAILED BROCHURE WITH MAP OF GREEN T-BAR AREA IS AVAILABLE AT THE INFO CENTER.

4) Simpson Creek Road/Trail
Follow Railway Avenue out of Smithers towards the ski area. Cross the tracks and continue STRAIGHT on the dirt road called Dahlie Road. DO NOT follow the pavement to the left that continues towards the ski hill. Stay on the dirt road for about 5 km and then begin your hike. Avoid the side road that continues up to the left and crosses Chicken Creek almost right away.

5) The Smithers Community Forest
The Community Forest Trail is designed to pass through a wide diversity of ecological habitats. To reach this trail, follow Railway Avenue out of Smithers towards the alpine ski area. The Community Forest and the X-Country ski area are located on the ski hill road. It is well marked--be sure to park in the RIGHT HAND SIDE parking lot. Refer to the map of the skiing area to located the trail head.
NOTE: Chris Dahlie X-Country ski trails accessible from this parking lot for longer hikes.

NOTE: BEARS MAY BE IN THESE AREAS SO BE AWARE AND KEEP DOGS ON LEASHES
