The Bulkley River - World class steelhead river has its origins near Houston BC. Flowing westward forming the Bulkley Valley, it passes in and around the regional center of Smithers BC. Eventually, the Bulkley joins the Skeena River near Hazelton BC.
Bulkley River
Highway 16 follows the Bulkley River for more than 160 km from Rose Lake to the confluence with the Skeena River at Hazelton. There are numerous locations where the river is accessible and which offer excellent fishing for both resident and sea-run sport species.
Besides Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden, the Bulkley also offers outstanding fishing for Steelhead, Chinook Salmon and Coho Salmon. There is an angling closure from January 1 to June 15 and a bait ban from August 1 until the closure.
There is very good fly fishing from late August through November from the junction of the Morice River downstream to the community of Telkwa. There is a Chinook and Coho Salmon closure upstream from the junction of the Morice river from July 15 to November 30.
