Welcome to Wilderness...

Whether you travel for business or pleasure – Smithers welcomes you! In the heart of the Bulkley Valley, Smithers rests at the foot of Hudson Bay Mountain, which rises dramatically to a height of 8,700’, forming a spectacular backdrop for the community.

A town of 5,500 people, Smithers successfully combines rural warmth and hospitality with the services that the traveller of the 21st century demands. You will find good hotels, B&B’s, and deluxe lodges; Internet cafés, quaint coffee and pastry shops; an art gallery and museum.

For the outdoor enthusiast – there really is no better spot than Smithers. Whatever your pleasure – hiking, biking, trail riding, canoeing, rafting, fishing, - you name it - the backcountry surrounding Smithers will dish it up. Explore by yourself or book a tour. Smithers has a strong representation of outdoor guides to serve you.

And Smithers is an outdoor playland 12 months a year! As autumn colours the hillsides - anglers from around the world converge on the valley – plying their skill against the ancient wisdom of the steelhead. In November as the snow deepens the mountains call out to skiers, snowshoers, and snowmobilers alike. Ski Smithers has it all for downhill skiers and snowboarders and the Bulkley Valley Nordic Centre offers a first class system of groomed trails and a day lodge. Backcountry cabins are available to skiers and snowmobilers.
